So I think after the last HOA meeting, it is pointless to even attend these things... I was in a good mood knowing that the Tobacco Prevention & Control program got back to me, but that good mood was CRUSHED when it became apparently that the HOA members were going to fight any contact from the TP&C program. The problem is that the HOA members for this location seem to be fighting for the "right" to smoke inside, the only person that was at the meeting fighting for non-smoker's rights was Charles.

Let's get one thing perfectly clear here; there is no "right to smoke" (period), there is just no law against it at this point & unfortunately the HOA members are confusing the two. While I won't argue with the ability to smoke in your own home, the problem is when it drifts to other people homes & this is particularly problematic in shared buildings. Shared buildings should NOT allow it & particularly when there have been this many complaints from various people in the building (and also considering there are children in the building), this is something they need to consider. When unwanted smoke drifts into your own home, it's could be taken as trespassing; however charging a toxic chemical (non-living) with trespassing is an asinine idea, so we go after the people that are causing it for causing a nuisance. The HOA does not seem to be concerned with getting it to stop, so there's really no point in me going to these meetings & a complete waste of time (I could have spent that time doing something that would have actually been productive).

Only Charles is fighting to get it stopped, however the problem is that it seems they are trying to get the laws changed in regards to smoking inside in shared buildings rather than just jumping into it. If we wait for the laws to change, all that's going to happen is people moving or dying as a result of not being able to get it to stop. My father currently has sunk WAY too much money into my condo to even consider moving, so I'm more likely to be in the death category before moving will be an option (although my father has stated a possible move, but we're not going to try this condo shit again; we'll be looking at a small house in the next case or possibly under a suggestion of my mother, a duplex where HE can make the rules of living there).

The HOA was not amused with me getting other organizations into the matter & said I should continue going through Charles to get it stopped, but this is a two-faced way of putting it when they are actually making it a point that they feel people have the "right" to smoke in their own units regardless of the consequences. While I do think continuing to contact Charles may be a good idea, I still think getting other organizations into the matter is also a good idea (I just need to find the right one to deal with it). The HOA seems to be more concerned about their professional reputation rather than getting it to stop through their own system, so perhaps that's the nerve I need to hit to get it to stop & I can only say that continuing to go through other agencies may be the way to tackle this. If somebody dies from the indoor smoking because they simply defended it, that's going to flush their professional rep down the shitter anyways (when I mentioned it was going to kill me sooner or later, they actually made a statement that showed more concern on reputation they would get out of it rather than for the loss of human life).

Now what they're not considering is their public reputation. What happens when people are not happy about a situation? They talk about it. Word of mouth is the quickest way to get the word around & internet reviews only amplify that effect. I have been saying this place is a health hazard from the start when I first started encountering this & thought I was in the clear when the last person in E22 got evicted for this reason; apparently I was wrong, DEAD wrong (or soon to be anyways). Every time somebody speaks badly about a company, their reputation lowers (unless somebody can say something that counteracts it) & I'm not the only person who is doing this considering they can't get the toxic habit stopped. Throw a death on top of that & there's no way they're going to repair their reputation.

I've said it before & I'll say it again, moving to this complex is a toxic hazard for non-smokers & I advise against it. Under the terms that the HOA & management are taking, there will be people moving out, selling their units (if they can find a buyer), health problems & deaths before a resolution happens. Sitting around waiting for the laws to change is a dead deal (and I'm being literal on the word "dead") & any non-smoker who wants to live here, be ready for a lot of problems with drifting smoke until "the laws change"; why does this sound like an extremely bad magic trick doomed for failure... >.<
